Have you ever seen a beautiful sunset? There is a striking beauty in that part of God’s creation, isn’t there? Well, there is an old Church hymn that is based on someone witnessing a beautiful sunset during the summer of 1936. You might have heard it before, it’s called ‘Beyond the Sunset’.

Being an avid (and quite amateur) aficionado in both cinema and at-home baking, the perfect storm, in my estimation, is the 2009 film Julie & Julia. It is a quaint, if somewhat forgettable little romp with a perfect Meryl Streep performance and numerous food-montages that have left me quite literally drooling on each subsequent viewing...

If you were around back in the 80's, then you experienced a marketing nightmare for one of the world’s leading soft drink distributors. Since 1942, Coca-Cola's marketing share had dropped from 60% down to 24%. They were seeing companies such as Pepsi (born here in the Carolinas) and other diet drinks really taking the market share.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally, the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all...

Matt 14:26 – 33 (ESV) But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

I can’t believe it is February. The beginning part of the year has absolutely just flown by. It seems like yesterday that we were celebrating Christmas and the New Year. If you have been to a store recently you have probably noticed that all of the Christmas trees, ornaments, and gifts have been changed out with seemingly endless amounts of heart shaped candies and chocolate.

When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to visit the Cumberland Gap on the borders of Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. While up there, my family visited a cave there called Gap Cave. After walking in and following a path for a short while, it became very dark, with the only light coming from the National Park Ranger’s lamp. When we reached a large cavern, our guide stopped us and gathered everyone together. He then turned off the lamp, plunging us all into absolute, pitch-black darkness.

We all remember the story of Frankenstein that Mary Shelley wrote back in 1818. This was one of the first science fiction stories ever written. In her book, Frankenstein, Shelley details the story of a scientist who brings the dead back to life.

As a young child living outside Richmond, Virginia, I grew up watching the great Mr. Rogers. Of all of the things that I remember about his show, I especially remember the opening theme song, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. (Matt 4:19–20)
